Leash Your Children?! NEVER!!

Yes, I'm ashamed to say, I was one of "those people"...judging before experiencing. I would see people walking their children with a leash and I would gasp and judge. "I would never put a leash on my child! It is just awful!!"

Today, after recommendations from other triplets moms, I bought backpack/leashes for my trio. They are monkeys that can be used as backpacks but have this convenient detachable tail/leash attached. This afternoon I tried them out. Mack and Sophie both starting screaming after I put them on but I managed to coax them outside and distracted Sophie while letting her carry Grace's backpack (we will never call them leashes :) I pushed Grace in the stroller and held the "tails" on the other two. I felt like one of those dog walkers with a dozen dogs. Mack would go too fast, Sophie would go too slow and then the "tails" would get crossed. It was...ok, fun is not the word...I call these times adventures.

So, after having children myself, I have learned that you should never judge anyone until you are in their shoes. Leashes may actually be a necessity!

We love the monkey backpack/leash! I used it to keep Crew from noseplanting when he first started walking in his walker.

We have a leash with a pink crown on it that we use. We had bought knowing Elizabeth's personality and that she would run away from us. It hasn't been used for that purpose yet as she is not yet walking independantly but it is quite useful in helping her to walk and keeping her hands free. I am all for leashes and with triplets they should be made manditory, I don't know how you keep up with where they all are.

I swore I would never use the leashes on any of my kids.....before I had kids....before I had triplets! I have seen those and they are pretty cute and serve a helpful purpose. A friend of mine helped me over my leash aversion when she told me we would totally be outnumbered at any amusement park!

Hun, I don't have triplets but I may be there with you soon. Too many kids and not enough hands ;-)

My kids have come to love their "harnesses". They'll actually pretend like they are horses and start neighing when I put them on!! See, it's all in the way you PRESENT the idea. I even bring along a handfull of granola to feed my "horses" their "oats".

You've got to LOVE a good imagination!!

During the winter my daughter had a critical illness. She is fine now but I was needed for three months to first take care of her and also her children, all boys ages 9, and 14 months at the time.

I've never approved of "leashes" for children but this Nana bought those monkeys and put them on her little monkey boys! I had to! They never walk, they run and in opposite directions. Without my "partner" the 9 year old I'd have never managed.

They love their leashes and take them with them everywhere. In the car they hold the monkeys and use them for pillows if they fall asleep. We used them for safety and gave them a bit of freedom by letting them still wander a bit. However, we also still held hands, the leash was only a back up when crossing streets, parking lots etc.

Here’s the funniest thing they liked to do. In the house they’d want to put them on and then pull me down the hall while I sat in the office chair. Okay it’s so silly but they just loved it.

The Nana!
