Hippotherapy

Today Grace officially started a new therapy...Hippotherapy at Equest in Wylie. It is about a 40 minute drive for us to get out there but it is so worth it. Last week was our first visit for an evaluation so today was Grace's first day to ride for about 45 minutes. I was so impressed with the time the PT took to get to know Grace and her limitations and the areas that were needed to focus on during the therapy...the different ways she would ride. Grace, of course, cried almost the entire session, but that was to be expected. She always does the the first time we do something new. I can't wait to see how she does next Thursday

Awwww look at her little face all red from crying. She is so precious. I think everyone gets nervous the first time they try something new. I am saving up to get Nathan into Hippotherapy here. I will have to drive a little ways aswell but I think he will squeal with excitement when he sees the horse.

Oh good! Crew really loved hippotherapy. I need to get him into it again. I think Grace will really like it. I hope you get good results too!

Shouldn't she be riding a "hippo" since it's hippotherapy? Seems to me it should be called
"mareotherapy" or "horseotherapy" or my all time favorite...

"STUD-O-THERAPY!". (Sorry I digress)...

I know she will love it when she gets over the newness. love, J

She looks like a modern day Annie Oakley...if Annie Oakley was terrified of horses :) I'm sure she will do amazing- she always does.

Jackie- The term hippotherapy is correct...Did you know that another name for a hippopotamus is a water horse? So there you go...a little known and useless fact from your bored daughter...

sounds like Makily, usually the first time is always a doooozy for her. She cries and acts like we are killing her....even if we do something simple like give her a new toy. Gotta love the sensory issues she has.

I need to really look into hippo therapy around here. I have heard it works wonders. Hope she likes it better next week!

I hate it that she was so unhappy on her first ride! I feel sure she'll be an old pro in no time at all. She is so super-beautiful! I just want to squeeze her! :)

I hope you see some great results! :)

That is great! I am sure she will love it pretty soon. We obviously couldn't get the doctor to write a script for this kind of therapy for Daniel, so we did the next best thing. We went out and bought the iGallop. It was inspired by hippotherapy. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.osim.com/product/igallop.aspx

Moo hates all animals bigger then him, which is just about all of them. I think he looks at their mouths and thinks - i could fit in there.

I hope Grace stops crying for the next session. She looks gorgeous and all grown up on the horse.
